Stockman Caprine EditionProgram CapabilitiesThe Stockman version for goats is designed to accommodate all of the data tracking needs for the meat goat, dairy goats and fiber producing goat industries. It has been prototyped and developed and refined in conjunction with an operational meat goat breeder. The Stockman program is a relational database that by nature is designed to track large amounts of data on specific animals. As you enter the information into the various fields and tab to the next field, the data is automatically saved to the record. There is no need to stop what you are doing and saving the document like you would on a MS Word or Excel file. The program works in three modes: the Browse mode, which allows you to enter data into the records and work with the database; the Find mode, which allows you to perform searches or finds on any field or combination of fields that you want; and the Preview mode, which allows you to look at a report on the computer screen as it would, if it was printed out. The program tracks all of the necessary information that a goat breeder needs for daily operations such as:
This program is designed with simplicity in mind. There
is wide variety of information that can be tracked the by
user. This program is designed to accommodate all three
areas of goat breeding: meat, dairy and fiber. Each of the
above pages has similar information on it or is logically
grouped. The user or breeder has the choice of what aspects
of the program to utilize. Some of the reports may contain more information than is needed by the breeder. The philosophy in designing this system and its reports was that it was better to have too much information than to have to little. And for the more advanced users of the program, they can use the menu commands to perform various functions that were not even programmed into the system. A tips and tricks page will be setup on the web site to better explain some of these options. Stockman Caprine Edition is designed so that all navigation functions can be controlled through the 15 gray tab buttons at the top of the information area and the most common task can be implemented with the Quick Command buttons located along the right side of most of the windows. The menu commands along the top of the screen allow you to perform more advanced functions. There is no practical limit on the number of animals that can be tracked by this program. This database program can track the information for well over 100,000 animals easily. Your limitations are set by your available memory and computer power. For the program to run on a Macintosh computer program requires a minimum of 8.2 megabytes of memory and will run on system 7.5 and above. The Windows version of the program will run with normal ram on a Windows 98, ME, NT, 2000 and XP machines. If a large database is eventually created then additional memory will need to be added to the computer.
